TS: Polling for MLC elections underway in the four districts

Elaborate arrangements have been made for Legislative Council elections today. Polling for Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Karimnagar MLC (both Graduates and Teachers) constituencies are in progress. Polling authorities have made all arrangement besides security to conduct election in peaceful, free and fair manner. Polling will be held from 8 am to 4 pm. A total of 24 candidates including 17 graduates and seven teacher aspirants are in fray.

While Graduates constituency has 1,96,321 voters, 23,214 teachers have registered to cast their votes for Teachers constituency in four districts – Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Karimnagar districts.

Out of 1,96,321 voters, the highest number of graduate voters are in Karimnagar district with 35,703 voters, followed by Nizamabad (26,008), Peddapalli (17,107), Jagitial(16,972), and Rajanna-Sircilla (10,584).

To provide an opportunity for voters to exercise their franchise, polling authorities have arranged 313 polling booths for graduates and 253 for teachers’ constituencies.

A total of 127 polling stations are arranged in the erstwhile Karimnagar including 48 in Karimnagar, 21 (Peddapalli), five (Manthani), 12 (Huzurabad), 14 (Sircilla), 15 (Jagitial), 12 in Metpalli.

While 47 are common polling stations, special polling booths have also been arranged for graduates (72) and teachers (six). On Thursday, polling staff along with election material left to polling stations allocated for them.

In a statement, district Collector and returning officer, Sarfaraz Ahmed asked private employees working in industries, schools, colleges and other private organizations to utilize their votes on Friday. Managements should provide an opportunity for their workers to exercise their votes. He said Friday was a holiday for voters those who participate in the MLC voting.
